INJEMIRA AN INDUSTRY PROVEN PROGRAM

Injemira an Industry Proven Program
Injemira Beef Genetics is a seedstock operation supplying commercial Poll Hereford Bulls to the Australian commercial industry. The Injemira herd supplies annually ~140 Poll Hereford Bulls to commercial clients on the eastern sea board with 100 of the best sold in the on-property auction this year being held at Book Book via Wagga Wagga on the 23rd February. Unlike many stud operations the biggest component of the Injemira business is their commercial program. The program involves Injemira purchasing weaner calves sired by Injemira bulls for a grass finishing program targeting the lucrative Coles ‘Graze’ program. Injemira principal Marc Greening described this program as “ a win-win for not only our clients that get a ready-made market and extra competition for their calves but the information received back from the performance data of the steers and heifers purchased really drives our stud breeding direction to a real world money making genetic package”.

Not only does the Injemira program back its own program by purchasing the bloodlines there is also many commercial grass fed finishers that chase the Injemira stamp on the calves they purchase. Large scale Gippsland grass steer finishers like Gary & Samantha Owen have seen the advantages of purchasing weaner calves with the Injemira stamp on the pedigree. Samantha Owen describes the Injemira blood cattle as “among the best cattle we buy and finish of any colour, quality Herefords like the Injemira blood steers go straight into the program we supply at the top money and MSA grade the best”. “The steers are modern animals that finish out of season at an early age whilst putting on weight quickly with the right carcase shape and style suited to our program” Samantha also said “we actually identify bloodlines that perform and chase Injemira blood cattle for our program and are prepared to pay a premium”.

The Injemira program in 2021 has some of the best EBV ranked bulls in the country with bulls ranking in the top 1% of the breed on many traits particularly calving ease, muscle and marbling with the average of the sale draft being in the top 20% of the breed. Although objective measurement through EBV’s and genomics is important it is not the only breeding objectives at Injemira. Marc explains “it’s very easy to lead the race for good figures, but there is other breeding requirements that come into play”. “Our commercial real world feedback has proven this. Structure, shape and market suitability are definitely number one when looking at our program and delivering a product suitable and wanted by our clients”.
The Injemira sale is on Tuesday the 23rd February on property at Book Book NSW. Along with the 100 sires on offer there will also be 120 PTIC EU accredited commercial heifers selling at 12.30pm.
